Open a terminal, login as a root and type:
# su
# apt-get install cups hplip
# usermod -a -G lpadmin YOURUSERNAME
# cd /
# /etc/init.d/cups start
Then go to http://localhost:631/
* Administration
* Add printer
* ... and follow the tutorial step by step.

SCANNER:
Open a terminal, login as a root and type:

# exit
Then go to Applications > Graphics > Simple Scan
